  • Angel Trail

    PT, OCS, Owner

Big Ivy Physical Therapy was founded by Angel Trail, MPT, in 2019. Before becoming a physical therapist, Angel suffered from chronic low back pain and could not find relief with the treatments available at that time. After completing her Master’s of Physical Therapy at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2007, she was able to heal naturally from her back pain with her new knowledge and the help and support of other physical therapists. She doesn’t want anybody to suffer for years as she did from any pain – click here to hear more about that.

Angel has been happily practicing physical therapy for over 13 years and has helped over 1,000 people recover from pain and injuries. Helping people relieve pain and enjoy their lives brings her joy and a feeling of purpose. She has a lifetime of experience in various sports and fitness, including gymnastics, ballet, cheerleading, martial arts, acrobatics, ballroom dance, Latin dance, Brazilian dance, aerial arts, Zumba, weightlifting, running, and CrossFit.

Angel regularly practices and teaches both CrossFit and dance fitness. Her current passion project is teaching LifeLong Strong, a fitness program she designed for people aged 50 and over. Angel has two wonderful sons and enjoys living in the quiet beauty of Barnardsville.

He spent several years working with athletes of all levels and earned his Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification through the NSCA. He then earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from University of St. Augustine, a rigorous program known for manual therapy techniques.

Because of Chris’s background in both exercise and manual therapy, he is able to use manual therapy when appropriate while also guiding his patients through skillfully selected exercises to be as strong and fit as possible. Chris excels at treating:

    • weightlifters
    • athletes
    • older adults who want to be more capable but are limited by pain or chronic injuries
    • shoulder injuries
    • neck injuries

He is a proud father to his son Gus and husband to his high school sweetheart Lauren, is a cancer survivor, avid outdoor adventurer, and Land Rover enthusiast and driving instructor. When not at work, he can be found hiking with his family (including his dogs Huck and Scout), or riding horses on the farm. He is a proud Jacksonville Jaguars fan (someone has to do it), and a member of the US Soccer supporters Club known as the American Outlaws, and just a general fan of sports.

Here’s what patients have to say about working with Chris

Chris put together a plan for me that included physical therapy AND personal training. We worked together for 6 weeks getting my hip into shape before my trip. He also taught me ongoing exercises to do at home and the gym on how to KEEP my hip in shape. Who knew! Physical Therapy inside a gym! Thank you Chris!

Chris, the PT was excellent. He did a great assessment and gave me exercises to help my chronically stiff neck/shoulders. He was very communicative and gave helpful feedback. I am now going to start attending strengthening/stretching classes for folks over 50. Can’t wait. Thanks for great PT services.

Best physical therapy anywhere!! Wish I hadn’t wasted a few months going somewhere else!! Very helpful and knowledgeable!!!

Growing up I played almost every sport and enjoyed outdoor activities such as snowboarding and kayaking. After needing physical therapy for different sports injuries (ACL repairs, fractures, sprains) I knew that I wanted to be a physical therapist by the time I was a senior in high school. While playing tennis for Bellarmine University and then University of Tennessee Chattanooga, I earned my undergraduate degrees in Biology and Rehabilitation Science.

I earned my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at UTC in 2010. Because of my background in sports, I focused my early career on treating athletes and the active population and became a Sports Clinical Specialist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Now 14 years into my career, I have developed a broader understanding of activity. While I still enjoy treating competitive athletes of all levels and ages, I also appreciate the importance of helping everyone achieve the highest quality of active life they can. And I love helping them get there. I utilize a variety of manual techniques, exercise programs, and functional movements to help patients get back to what they love to do. For close to 13 years I have served Weaverville and the surrounding communities, which means I have communicated with a lot of doctors in this region.

Outside of work, you can find me squeezing in short runs in downtown Weaverville or doing a variety of outdoor recreational activities and sports with my husband and two kids.
