  • James Martin Mace

LMBT, CPT – Fitness Director, Massage, Personal Training, Health Coaching

James is a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (LMBT #21817), a graduate of the Western North Carolina School of Massage, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.A., 2014). He holds additional certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the CHEK Institute, and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. His work as a holistic personal trainer integrates Neuromuscular Therapy massage with functional fitness to restore structural integrity and reduce chronic pain.

By prioritizing function, longevity, and structural resilience, James’ approach to personal training significantly departs from the mainstream fitness world’s emphasis on aesthetics. At the core of his work is a firm belief that every body is unique and carries expressive potential. Through corrective exercise plans and movement education packages, James supports his clients as they liberate themselves to move freely, easily, and joyfully.

James draws on a number of tools to help his clients thrive, including SFMR instruction (Self Myofascial Release), comparative range of motion assessments, compound pattern diagnostics, assisted proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching, personalized program design, Trigger Point massage, and somatically informed lifestyle coaching. Each of these tools has played an important role in James’ lifelong journey as a movement practitioner, athlete, weightlifter, martial artist, and dancer.

Current pursuits include ongoing studies in Contact Improvisation, BodyMind Centering™, Idiokinesis, Feldenkrais, and the Ido Portal Method. James is also a musician based in Asheville, N.C.
